Communications

image_dispatchFIU Police Department’s Communication Center is located inside the Public Safety Tower Building at the Modesto Maidique Campus. The FIU community has access to the communications center twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week, including holidays. The center provides information to the community and serves as a lost and found office.

Functions and services of the police communication operators (PCOs) include:

  • Handling emergency calls from telephones, elevator phones, and emergency call boxes, as well as calls for service, i.e. motorist assists, escorts, opening and securing doors/buildings.
  • Monitoring fire and burglar alarms on both campuses, dispatching officers when necessary.
  • Assisting the FIU community and visitors on a walk-in basis.
  • Operating FDLE and Miami-Dade computer terminals for law enforcement purposes.

All of the services are available to the FIU Community and its visitors. Call boxes are found throughout the parking lots in both campuses and can be used in the case of an emergency or motorist assist. If you have any questions or concerns, or you would like to report an emergency, please call (305)348-2626
