Rape Aggression Defense Program

Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D) is a self-defense program for women, which consists of easy to learn techniques that have realistic and practical applications. FIU women can now attain the skills and confidence needed to survive an unexpected attack. The FIU Police Department offers RAD classes during the fall and spring semesters to female students, faculty, and staff.

The program is taught by certified instructors and is endorsed by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators. Taught in a fun and friendly atmosphere, the course covers awareness techniques, prevention, risk reduction, and avoidance strategies.

RAD’s objective is to develop and enhance the options of self-defense for women. Participants are given the opportunity to test their abilities during a simulated attack. The FIU Police Department discusses and addresses the issues of personal safety and awareness with participants. Unlike other self-defense programs, you will learn practical defense techniques that require no equipment or skill.
